rwthPublic funded projects bring together the competences of ITA and our industry partners and academic research partners from other disciplines. Here pre-competitive innovative process chains and new textile solutions for selected applications are developed. An emphasis is placed on supporting the innovation activities of SMEs.

Furthermore, process analyses and feasibility studies are carried out and prototypes are brought to market through direct research and development contracts from the industry.

For the research and development work, ITA has a modern equipped technical facility , which fully represents the textile process chain, from raw materials to semi-finished textile or component.

One of the oldest private universities in Japan, Keio University traces its beginnings to the original Keio Gijuku, an institution of Western learning unlike any other in Japan in its time. Founder Yukichi Fukuzawa (1835 – 1901) was a man of uncommon courage, vision, and wisdom, who defied the established powers of the time and pursued knowledge above all else, endeavoring to understand the society and morals of 19th century civilization in Europe and North America. His beliefs were very progressive at a time when Japan was just beginning to awaken from centuries of isolation. His convictions and deeds made an indelible mark on the country that would, little more than a century later, become the second-largest economic power in the free world.
programThe Institute for Composite Materials (IVW) is a nonprofit organization. It develops new composite applications in various joint ventures with industrial customers and within funded research programs. New materials, advanced composite design schemes, and manufacturing processes are investigated and – once the necessary fundamentals are understood – engineered for applications and tailored to meet individual product requirements (“mission oriented research”). Besides this, new ideas and concepts internally generated are constituent elements of the research work and advanced developments (“intrinsic research”). The knowledge gained through R&D is transferred: into industrial applications, the education of engineers, and into new spin-off companies.

Brightlands Chemelot CampusBrightlands Chemelot Campus

Brightlands Chemelot Campus is one of the eight National Science and Innovation Parks in The Netherlands. Since 2012, the campus development is executed by a consortium of three parties: Royal DSM, the Province of Limburg and Maastricht University. In Sittard-Geleen advanced educational institutes and research institutes have been set up. Existing and new companies have developed, expanded or moved their activities to the campus. The Brightlands Innovation Factory was set up to stimulate entrepreneurship at Brightlands.

To accommodate these organizations, state-of-the-art facilities were realized, including laboratories, cleanrooms, conference centers, startup facilities as well as pilot plants. At the start of 2017, the number of people at the campus was 2500. The objective is to grow to almost 3900 community members in 2023.

We opt for sustainable and smart materials and smart and sustainable chemical processes as the main feature of the campus. In materials development, we look at entire value chains such as biomedical, automotive and packaging and focus on sustainable, efficient production of bio-based materials. For the sustainable and smart chemistry, we consciously work together with the partners at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus and the Chemelot Industrial Park. New areas we are involved in are electrification and water treatment.
